The Bombay High Court on Friday cleared the way for the post-graduate medical examinations along with the final year dental (BDS) examinations that are to be conducted by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) later this month.

This came after a bench led by Chief Justice Dipankar Datta was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) opposing the MUHS's decision to mandate the physical presence of students at examination centres due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The MUHS is slated to conduct the final-year examinations of BDS from August 17 and the examination for the post-graduate medical course from August 25.

However, the bench noted that a number of people have filed petitions seeking multiple things. While some were opposing the examinations, some wanted the authorities to conduct them.

Meanwhile, the court added that postponing the exams at the last hour could prove detrimental to the interest of those students who might be prepared for the exams and ready to appear for them physically as this would hinder their academic future.

Moreover, several universities have already conducted their final year examinations and the PG students in the state's colleges will have to take a backseat if they did not complete their tests. This could prove to be fatal with regards to the future of the student.
