The class teachers’ union has demanded that the Maharashtra government allow coaching classes to resume further adding that since all operations in the state have resumed, it is only pertinent that coaching classes be resumed for the students as well.

Except for Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and Thane, classes for standard V to XII has started regularly in the state. Moreover, colleges are to also start soon as well. In view of the situation, coaching class operators have requested the government to allow coaching classes to be started.

Earlier on December 29, Mumbai’s civic body, the BMC, stated that all schools in Maharashtra are to remain closed till January 15, 2021, in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The BMC back in November decided to keep all schools across the city closed till December 31. However, the Maharashtra government had earlier allowed Classes 9 to 12 to reopen from November 23, 2020.

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, schools all across India, affiliated to CBSE, CISCE or state boards have been closed since the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. However, despite the closure, schools have been teaching in online/offline blended mode for completion of the syllabus.

On the other hand, the state government had earlier announced that colleges can resume operations from February 15. Moreover, according to the reopening guidelines shared by the University of Mumbai (MU) on February 5, colleges are to get permission from the local collector’s office. However, as of now, no such intimation has been received by any college.
