After over a year, colleges in Maharashtra are set to open their doors to students once again from October 20. Uday Samant, the state’s higher education and technical education minister proclaimed this on Wednesday, highlighted accounts.

According to reports, Samant is said to have elaborated on how students should be fully inoculated prior to sitting for in-person classes. In addition to this, the ultimate resolution will be undertaken by the authorities in the university in discussion with the local corporations as well district officials. In the case that colleges are set to commence in the island city, the authorities will appeal to the railways to accord permission. In addition to this, the state has also undertaken the resolution to re-open hostels in a phased manner.

Whilst the state will be issuing the standard operating procedure (SOPs), educational establishments can curate their own SOPs through the assistance of the local government bodies. Samant added that students must be fully inoculated prior to attending classes, if in the case they aren’t, the educational establishments can conduct camps for the same. He further elucidated that in areas where the number of cases is high, the local authorities can push back the re-opening of the colleges.

Based on accounts, he also mentioned that the state will urge the railways to permit local train travel for pupils if the locals' bodies choose to re-open educational establishments in the island city. Those who cannot attend in-person classes can attend online one’s. With the fall in coronavirus cases, the state is gradually re-opening services.
