Observe International Yoga Day at Universities and Colleges: Governor of Maharashtra

The Governor of Maharashtra CH Vidyasagar Rao directed all Vice Chancellors of State Universities in Maharashtra to observe International Yoga Day on June 21 at universities and affiliated colleges. Rao has ordered all the universities to upload details of the activities undertaken on the occasion on their websites and send reports and images to Raj Bhavan on the same day.

A common Yoga protocol including Yoga prayer has been directed to be followed as a part of the observance on the International Yoga Day. The Governor has also asked the Vice Chancellors to invite prominent citizens at the celebration.

The state government has asked schools, colleges and universities to chalk out a programme to make Yoga a regular activity and not just an annual event. Accordingly, it has asked the institutions to hold Yoga sessions on the 21st of every month. Minister for school education and sports Vinod Tawde said if the 21st day is a holiday; Yoga Day should be observed either on the previous day or the next day.  

The monthly Yoga sessions will be optional and no action will be taken against institutes that do not follow the session.
