IIT-Bombay Makes It Mark Among the Top 50 Universities of the World

Mumbai's prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay bagged the 44th rank followed by IIT-Delhi getting the 47th rank in engineering and technology.

For the first time, Indian institutes have ranked among the top 50 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking. Mumbai's prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Bombay bagged the 44th rank followed by IIT-Delhi getting the 47th rank in engineering and technology. 

Other Indian institutes which were featured in the list were Jawaharlal Nehru University bagging the 164th rank as compared to 166th last year in the field of arts and humanities. IIT-Bombay director Subhasis Chaudhuri stated that their students and faculty members have been their key strength. It is their dedication and hard work that has got them where we are today.

In the category of social science and management, Delhi boasted the maximum number of institutes from the country. IIT-Delhi and Delhi University (DU) were among the top 200 and AIIMS has been ranked 231 in life science and medicine category. 

In recent years, IIT-Bombay has come up with many initiatives with regards to technology and science. It had recently announced that any startup across the country can have access to its integrated prototype laboratory. 

The charges will be nominal and will mostly be on a pay-per-use model as the laboratory has to be sustained. Startups from IIT-Bombay can also make use of this facility. Taking into note the lack of access to a state-of-the-art lab to build prototypes, IIT-Bombay's  Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE) had come up with this initiative.

Scientists from IIT-Bombay had also collectively built a technology- immunotherapy that utilizes the patient's immune system to fight cancer. It costs between ₹4-5 crores, but researchers believe that if a technology like this is developed within India, it can be made available to cancer patients for ₹15 lakh.
