On Tuesday, April 6, the state education department stated that students in standard 10th and 12th might be promoted without having to appear for the board examinations.

Meanwhile, the official decision regarding the same is to be taken in a day or two. This comes amidst the rise in cases of coronavirus. In the past, Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had informed the citizens that the board examinations will be held offline. However, with the state government initiating new stringent restrictions under the BreakTheChain campaign, there is a growing demand amongst students and parents for online examinations.

However, the state of Maharashtra might not possess the required infrastructure for online examinations as even if the education department decides to conduct the examinations online, every student will have to go to the said educational institution to appear for the exam, as is the case with competitive examinations. On the other hand, network issues happen to be a pertinent problem in rural areas.

According to reports, Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has shared three plans on which the department has discussed earlier on Tuesday, April 6. According to ‘Plan A’, sops like extra time, home centres, and guidelines on the second attempt have been shared.

"We have to consider board exams of CBSE etc which will be held within the state’s jurisdiction. So we are finalizing Plan B and C to accommodate all these concerns. For this, views of domain experts are being taken and after that, a proposal shall be put up before the CMO,” the minister added.

Furthermore, the state government has guaranteed a second attempt in June to any student who misses the board examinations.
