On Tuesday, December 21, the Maharashtra education department relaxed the minimum age criteria for admission to grades from the nursery to 1 for the 2022-23 academic year, said officials, reported the PTI.

According to the government resolution (GR) dated September 18, 2020, the cut-off date for the minimum age for school admissions has been December 31. Owing to this, those born in October, November and December faced problems whilst attaining admissions in schools.

Taking cognizance of this issue, the education department has altered the minimum age criteria for admission for the 2022-23 academic year, mentioned a government circular on Monday, December 20.

In accordance to the new rule, those born between October 1, 2018 and December 31, 2019 and have completed minimum three years of age as on December 31, 2022 can seek admission to nursery.

Likewise, those born between October 1, 2017 and December 31, 2018 and have completed minimum four years of age as on December 31, 2022 can seek admission to junior KG.

Similarly, those born between October 1, 2016 and December 31, 2017 and have completed minimum five years of age as on December 31, 2022 can seek admission to senior KG.

Additionally, those born between October 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016 and have completed six years of age as on December 31, 2022 can seek admission to grade 1.

Apart from this, the circular mentions that the age limit for pre-primary admission can be flexible. Therefore, no school can refute admission to students owing to a problem with age. Adding that no upper limit has been decided for admission, thus it can be flexible.
