The Maharashtra government is reportedly taking significant steps toward the establishment of a Tribal University, an initiative aimed at integrating tribal communities into the mainstream educational framework. Governor and Chancellor C.P. Radhakrishnan highlighted this effort, emphasizing the importance of equipping these communities with modern knowledge and skills to enable them to compete on a global scale, rather than keeping them isolated.

Focus on Modern Education and Market Alignment

During a convocation ceremony at a prominent university, Governor Radhakrishnan stressed the need for educational curricula to be aligned with current market demands. He underscored the importance of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, noting that these are crucial strategies in addressing the challenges of poverty, unemployment, and resource scarcity. It has been reported that the university has signed an agreement with a leading management institution, possibly KPMG, to elevate its status as a world-class educational center. Dr. Chaudhari expressed pride in the university’s prioritization, especially in the field of engineering education. In addition to emphasizing the need for a modern education, Radhakrishnan also advised students to incorporate daily reading from printed books into their routines. He suggested that dedicating at least an hour each day to reading would help refresh their minds and broaden their knowledge base, complementing the extensive use of laptops for their studies.

University Progress and Student Welfare Initiatives

Dr. Bhirud provided an update on the university’s progress during the convocation ceremony, announcing that the construction of a new library and administrative building is expected to commence soon. As part of the Student Welfare Campaign, 105 students received laptops, and scholarships worth ₹1.4 crore were awarded to 330 students. Placement figures were also shared, revealing that 79% of undergraduate students and 47% of postgraduate students secured jobs through campus recruitment, with the highest salary package reaching ₹87 lakh.

Degrees Awarded Across Multiple Disciplines

The convocation ceremony saw degrees conferred upon students from various disciplines, including civil engineering, computational sciences, electrical and communications engineering, mechanical and materials engineering, and transdisciplinary sciences and management. The event was anchored by Dr. Kshipra Moghe and Nandini Iyer, who guided the proceedings smoothly.

New Governor Appointment in Maharashtra

In a related development, it has been reported that President Droupadi Murmu appointed C.P. Radhakrishnan as the new governor of Maharashtra on July 29, 2024. This appointment followed the completion of Ramesh Bais’ five-year term on July 28, 2024. Radhakrishnan, a seasoned BJP leader from southern India, previously served as the governor of Jharkhand and held additional responsibilities as the governor of Telangana before his current appointment. Ramesh Bais, who took over the Maharashtra governorship from Bhagat Singh Koshyari in February 2023, has now completed his tenure, aligning with the trend where governors appointed during the first two terms of the Narendra Modi-led administration have not received extensions.
