State government to soon take a decision on the ‘Teacher Eligibility Test’

Maharashtra State Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad,  after a recently held meeting stated that an appropriate decision will be taken soon regarding the teacher qualification examination in the state.

Talking about the same, she stated that the decision will be taken after considering the opinion of the Advocate General regarding the amendment in the law, and she made the statement while answering a question posed by Member Nagarao Ganar during Question Hour when a query related to offering justice to teachers was posed for those who have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test.

Currently, passing the Teacher Eligibility Test is a must for teachers and it is the prerogative of the Central Government to provide increased opportunities to achieve this minimum qualification. However, the state government has continuously followed up with the central government regarding the matter and queries have been raised for the same.

As per reports, this test has been conducted 16 times in the state, and it is the role of the government to ensure that teachers who have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test apply for the necessary positions. However, Minister Varsha Gaikwad also informed that a meeting will be held with the speakers soon to take a decision in this regard.

Besides her, other members namely Girish Chandra Vyas, Vikram Kale, Kapil Patil and department officials also participated in the discussion.

Sources state that guidance has been sought from the Error Redressal Committee of the University Grants Commission regarding the verification of associate professors promotion and salary confirmation in the state and upon receiving the same, the authorities would plan an appropriate action.

Earlier, over 500 principals' posts were to be filled in the state, out of which 260 principals have been recruited. Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant said that a positive decision would be taken after the Finance Department gives permission for the remaining posts.
