Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais presided over a meeting of vice chancellors of agricultural universities in the State at Raj Bhavan Mumbai on Tue, July 18.

The meeting discussed the issues of increasing financial powers of vice chancellors, filling of vacant teaching and non teaching posts in universities, implementation of Model Act for Higher Agricultural Education in India, Empowerment of Vice Chancellors to depute scientists to proceed on foreign tours, restoring Contingency Grants to universities and others.
 

The maximum limit of the funds allotted to the vice-chancellors of the universities for construction and purchase of machinery has been decided long ago and the governor suggested immediate action at the government level to increase the financial powers of the vice-chancellors in this meeting. In the meeting, the Governor reviewed the vacant teaching and non-teaching posts in all the agricultural universities and took information about the steps being taken by the university and the government to fill the vacancies.

Additional Chief Secretary Agriculture Anoop Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Finance (Expenditure) O.P. Gupta, DG, MCAER Raosaheb Bhagde and officials were present. 


Vice Chancellor of Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapith Dr Sharad Gadakh, Vice Chancellor of Vasantrao Naik Marathwada Agricultural University Dr Indra Mani, Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Phule Agricultural University Dr P G Patil and Vice Chancellor of Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth Dr Sanjay Bhave raised the issues concerning their universities.
