In a major relief for students participating in Maharashtra's centralised online Class 11 admission process, the Directorate of Education has granted an additional three months for the submission of Economically Weaker Section (EWS) and Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificates.

The decision comes after several students faced difficulties securing admission in the first round due to the unavailability of the required certificates. Taking students' interests into consideration, the Directorate has allowed admissions to proceed even if the certificates are pending.

Students selected in the first merit list were required to complete admission formalities at their allotted junior colleges by June 3. So far, more than 270,000 students have confirmed their admissions. However, candidates applying under reserved categories and the EWS quota are required to submit valid NCL and EWS certificates.

With many students yet to obtain these documents, parents, students, and various organisations had urged the Education Directorate to extend the submission deadline.

Responding to these requests, Director of Education (Secondary and Higher Secondary) Dr. Mahesh Palkar has instructed junior colleges to grant admission to students who can provide either an acknowledgment receipt showing they have applied for the certificate or an undertaking confirming they will submit it later.

Colleges have been directed to allow a three-month grace period for the submission of the final certificates.

The move is expected to benefit thousands of students whose certificates are delayed, ensuring they are not excluded from the admission process. The Directorate said the decision will help students secure their admissions on time while completing the necessary documentation at a later stage.
