Maharashtra: School Education Department Proposes Reopening Of Offline Classes In Schools From Monday

According to the latest reports, the Maharashtra School Education department has proposed the reopening of offline classes in schools from Monday, January 24. It has been reported that a proposal in the same regard has been sent to the Chief Minister's office and thus, a decision is anticipated in the cabinet meeting on Thursday, January 20. 

Based on accounts, the office of state school education minister, Varsha Gaikwad elaborated on how the proposal looks to grant permission to recommence offline function of schools in accordance with the decisions taken by the respective local administration. Earlier, BMC Chief Iqbal Singh Chahal was quoted by an account elaborating on how they are now planning to re-open schools in the city by January 27.

The office reiterated that standard operating procedures be declared when schools reopen, vaccination of all teaching as well a non-teaching staff and children in the eligible age group is also encouraged.

Certain narratives have quoted an official from the ministry elaborating on how the proposal was sent after receiving many letters and recommendations from educationists and parents' associations demanding that offline classes in schools be recommenced. 

The official added that the proposal does not specify rural or urban areas but seeks permission to recommence physical classes where the local administration is confident. Therefore, the final decision will be undertaken by the local administration in accordance with the condition in their region. The official further remarked that a decision is anticipated in the cabinet meeting on Thursday, January 20. 

Schools in the state commenced offline classes from December 15, 2021. Then they went on a Christmas break from December 23 and were set to resume on January 3. However, schools were asked to function online till January 31, by the BMC. Later on January 8, the Maharashtra government announced that schools could not hold offline classes till February 15.
