Mumbai: Schools For Grades 1-7 To Reopen From Tomorrow

BMC stated that all schools for grades 1 to 7 will reopen from Wednesday, December 15. According to the BMC circular issued on November 30, 2021, the guidelines entailed the following:

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that all schools for grades 1 to 7 will reopen from Wednesday, December 15. Earlier the Maharashtra government had decided to reopen schools for primary students from December 1, in Mumbai.

However, in light of the threat posed by the new variant of COVID-19, Omicron, a decision was undertaken to postpone the reopening of schools.

Previously, on Monday, December 13, the Nashik Municipal Commissioner resumed physical classes for grades 1-7.

On the other hand, according to the BMC circular issued on November 30, 2021, the guidelines entailed the following:

  • Schools for classes 1-7 should strictly be started by following the guidelines regarding COVID-19
  • Classes from 1-7 in all management and medium schools in the municipal area should start from December 15. For that, the concerned teachers and non-teaching staff should be present in the school.
  • To prepare for the commencement of the school, the concerned headmaster should take action to ensure that the teachers and non-teaching staff are present in the school as required by following the COVID-19 rules.
  • Action should be taken under Appendix A and A attached to the guidelines on health, hygiene and other safety measures before and after the commencement of school.
  • Municipal schools in the BMC area should be sterilized with Sodium Hydride solution with the help of the Assistant Commissioner. Schools of other management should disinfect schools at their level.
  • COVID-19 Vaccination Centres which were present at Brihanmumbai Municipal Schools for classes 1-7 should be migrated to another place with the help of the Assistant Commissioner.
  • Teacher staff assigned for verification of COVID-19 vaccination certificate at COVID-19 Center, Railway Station as well as for election-related work should be dismissed.
  • Schools under the jurisdiction of the Greater Mumbai Municipal Corporation should be affiliated with the nearest Municipal Health Center in their schools with classes from 1-7.
  • To give home visits to students who are unable to attend school for any reason, or to a teacher-friendly, child-friendly parent. Planning and action should be taken at the school level to get education through such mediums.
  • All supervisory officers should visit the schools under their jurisdiction regularly and inspect and provide necessary guidance in this regard.  

Moreover, Pune Mayor, Murlidhar Mohol, elucidated that a decision to resume classes for grades 1-7 in the Pune Municipal Corporation area from December 16th has been taken. Parents have thus been asked to take note of the same, news agency ANI reported.
