In Maharashtra, cellphones were once prohibited for both students and school staff back in 2009. But in recent years, the policies have evolved. Now, teachers are allowed to use these devices for educational purposes.

Back in 2015, teachers were granted permission to access information on their mobile phones. But they rarely used them for educational activities.

The state education department took a note and issued directives. It warned teachers against answering personal calls during school hours.

Despite this change, the ban on mobile phone use still remains in place for students and non-teaching staff. Students violating the rule now face a fine of INR 50. In the past, staff members were fined INR 100 for similar violations.

Post-pandemic, schools transitioned to online classes, where students heavily relied on cellphones for learning. However, with the reopening of schools, only teachers were given the privilege of using cellphones for educational purposes.

To ensure a structured approach, teachers must seek permission from their principals before using cellphones for educational activities. During lectures, cellphones can be used if required, but teachers are urged to keep them on silent mode.
