Leader of the Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM), Vinod Patil has asked for a review of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) exam results that were published on June 20. Patil has written to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, as well as the MPSC chief Satish Gavai and State Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta asking that the recently declared results be reviewed.

Patil cites an analysis of MPSC exam results that reportedly show candidates who took the exam and assumed services in 2017 wrote the exam again in 2019 and received the same post.

“The CM and CS must step in immediately and review the results. The results of 30 candidates, who have already joined the services, should be revoked and the opportunity should be given to new candidates,” Patil said.

Responding to the allegations, MPSC head Satish Gavai said that there were no provisions within the MPSC rules that restrict individuals from reappearing for exams to improve their performance.

Though MPSC’s argument appears legitimate, the concern arises when a person who has already received a higher post wants to retake the exam, thus depriving other candidates of getting their place within state services.

The Chief Minister’s Office is yet to respond to the demands for a review, though it is expected that there will be a government intervention at some point to check the irregularities if any. This year’s MPSC exams were postponed multiple times due to the coronavirus lockdown, though exams were subsequently finished with the results being declared late last week.

Earlier this year, the MPSC announced that there were increased state services posts on offer for 2020
