In view of the rises in cases of coronavirus across the country and the state, on Friday, April 9, the state government postponed the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examination scheduled for April 11 till further orders.

The decision was taken in an online meeting chaired by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Moreover, it was attended by cabinet ministers, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Pravin Darekar, MNS chief Raj Thackeray and senior officials.

According to sources, students from various cities across the state including MPAC Coordinating Committee, Maharashtra, and representatives from Solapur, Ahmednagar, Satara, Hingoli, Yavatmal, Mumbai, Pune, Latur, Nagpur, Kolhapur had earlier written letters to CM Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, MNS chief Raj Thackeray to postpone the examinations amidst the second wave of COVID-19.

These examinations are conducted for the recruitment of Assistant State Tax Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Project Officer, Deputy Superintendent in Land Record, Deputy Superintendent in State Excise, and other posts in the state government.

Meanwhile, in the past, after the Supreme Court adjourned the Maratha reservation, the demand for postponing the MPSC exams was gaining momentum, post which, the Uddhav Thackeray government had taken a big decision to postpone the examination to be held on October 11, 2020. At that time, the Chief Minister had made it clear that no student would be disqualified as the examination was postponed.
