As the physical classes for Std 1 to 12 resumed on January 24, Mumbai Mayor Kishor Pednekar ensured that the schools are adhering to the strict COVID-19 protocols.

While addressing a press conference, Pednekar mentioned that the old rules and SOPs are applicable for running the schools.

She further said that only the children whose parents give permission to attend the physical classes will go to school while the virtual classes will continue for the students not attending the physical classes.

There will be a distance of 2 feet between the benches. School management will decide the number of children in classes, she added.

Notably, the schools in Mumbai have been closed since January 4 due to the rise in COVID-19 cases. Earlier, it was announced by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMCstated that schools in Mumbai for grades 1-9 and 11 will remain shut till January 31.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackeray also clarified that parents are free to make their own decisions in this regard and should send their children to school.

Besides, expressing concern over the rise in infections, State health minister Rajesh Tope said that the people seem to be not afraid of the coronavirus. The COVID-19 protocols must be followed strictly. Common people, as well as politicians, should avoid crowding.
