Recently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) decided to postpone resumption of schools from classes 1-7 in Mumbai; however, in-person classes for classes 8-12 is ongoing. According to a survey conducted by 'Local Circles,' the higher standards are expected to see a drop in attendance due to the Omicron threat.

As per Mid-day reports, the survey also claimed that the new COVID-19 variant will have an effect on parents' willingness to send their wards to school.

As a part of the survey, the question asked to the parents was - "With the threat of COVID variant Omicron on the horizon, what is your view on sending your children/grandchildren to school for in-person classes?"

About 32% of parents who are not sending their children to school said they would continue to do so until they have more clarity. While another 10% stated that the school their children study in has not yet started in-person classes.

The survey further revealed schools in India will likely see a drop by 14% in students attending schools physically.

Local Circles is a community social media platform that has been active since the pandemic has begun. They make sure that the collective opinion of parents of school children reach the government.
