Mumbai University’s Jawaharlal Nehru Library in its Kalina campus is slated to be shifted to a new building, reports stated. The state’s higher and technical education minister Uday Samant visited the library on Wednesday, February 23.

The library has been in the limelight owing to its poor state with books and research papers rotting. The minister took to Twitter to announce that a meeting will be conducted at the university on March 2 at 1 pm to relocate the library to a new location.

Samant reportedly visited the Kalina campus of the university and inspected the poor condition of the library. During this time, he inspected rare books, dissertations, old newspapers and reference books.

The minister was quoted by narratives elaborating on how even though the new building is ready, it doesn’t have an occupancy certificate thus he will request the mayor, Kishori Pednekar to pay attention to this. The meeting is anticipated to finalize a plan to commence the work of shifting.

Samant commented on the unfortunate conditions of the books, he said that whilst it is the university’s responsibility, the Maharashtra government has taken interest in the problem so he visited the library. The priority according to him, will now be to bring the library back to its original glory.
