According to reports, the hike in the final-year results by Mumbai University is bound to have an effect on students looking to get admitted in the postgraduate professional courses in India and abroad.

Amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdowns, Mumbai University has conducted three-semester exams so far. As the final examinations for the outgoing batch of 2020 were done in a hurry in October, there was no scope to control the exaggerated results. Moreover, the examinations were decentralised and conducted independently by colleges. In addition, question papers only had MCQs then.

On the other hand, the teachers of Mumbai University had earlier protested at the Kalina campus, pressing for life insurance as well as promotion. University of Mumbai Academic Staff Association’s Members are demanding medical group insurance as well as general insurance.

Coupled with this, they also seek promotions in line with the Career Advancement System and opportunities under the National Pension Scheme accounts. Furthermore, funds that were issued by the Rashtriya Uchatar Shikshya Abhiyan were allegedly misused by the university, which the academic staff demands probe into. Audit of the university’s finance department and better treatment of teachers from the reserved categories are part of their demands.
