In Navi Mumbai, some educational institutes are not government recognised, yet they admit new students on a large scale in such schools. Students and parents are usually unaware of this during the admission process. Therefore, it becomes necessary to declare unauthorised schools before the admission process begins. However, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has not yet announced the list of unauthorised schools even though there is only a month left for schools to reopen. This affects students' academic year.

Every year at the beginning of the academic year in March, the civic body publishes the list of unofficial schools. This year it has been delayed. However, the admission process for Junior, Senior, Nursery starts in December, January. Therefore, as the Municipal Corporation publishes the list of unauthorised schools late, students lose their academic year.

According to the Right to Education Act, it is mandatory to register the schools with the Municipal Corporation, Zilla Parishad and State Director of Education. However, some private educational institutes in Navi Mumbai are providing education even though they are not accredited. The list of these schools needs to be announced in advance so that students in Navi Mumbai do not get admission in unauthorised schools.
