Only 32,635 students took admission in the first round of engineering admissions conducted through the State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell), despite 1,44,776 students being allotted seats in the selection list announced on July 31.
Out of 2,17,330 registered candidates, 1,99,748 had filled their college preferences. Among them, 1,44,776 were allotted colleges, with 15,852 students getting their first-choice college. These students were required to confirm admission in person between August 1 and 3 by 3 pm.
However, by 1 pm on August 3, only 25,650 students had taken admission. As a result, the CET Cell granted a one-day extension, during which an additional 6,985 students enrolled, bringing the total to 32,635.
Although 15,852 students got their top-choice college, the low overall admission number suggests that many meritorious students with lower-preference allotments chose not to enroll.
