Students from Mumbai left their virtual classrooms on Wednesday, March and returned to their schools. After the March 2020 lockdown owing to the COVID-19 timings, classes fully commenced in the offline mode.

Schools on Wednesday became an avenue of the regular hustle-bustle with not just the complete timetable, but also a recess, sports and other extra-curricular activities. These were simple activities that pupils weren’t able to revel in while at home.

At one city school, Orchids The International School, “No Books Day” was celebrated on the first day and an array of activity-based learning exercises were conducted. Dr Kavita Nagpal, Principal, Orchids The International School, Masjid Bunder, Mumbai said, “We registered almost 65% attendance on the first day and everyone was filled with happiness, excitement, anticipation, and all other kinds of emotions.”

According to Nagpal, everyone including the faculty members enjoyed every bit of the new day. For her, the highlight was welcoming the pupils in lower grades.

She added, “It was the first time they were attending the formal school but not a single child cried the whole day rather they were taking part in all the activities with great enthusiasm and amazement.”

According to reports, while the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) gave the go-ahead for schools in Mumbai to function normally from Wednesday, many didn’t reopen since they required additional time for planning.
