In view of the rising number of cases of coronavirus, teachers have once again demanded a syllabus cut in SSC and HSC examinations to help the students cope as schools might remain shut for a longer period in several places across Maharashtra.

Last year, the state education department had announced a syllabus cut of 25 per cent for the board examinations for SSC and HSC.  Meanwhile, with classes resuming for standard 5th to 8th in most of the districts in Maharashtra, sources say that about 85 per cent of the schools have resumed classes.

Moreover, on the first day, the attendance of the students was about 30 per cent. However, schools in some parts of the state, including Mumbai city, suburbs and Pune, have not yet resumed operations. After giving permission to start classes for 9th to 12th standard in the state from November 23, in the second phase, classes for standard 5th to 8th were started from January 27. The decision to resume school was given by the local administration. Accordingly, many Zilla Parishad schools were started in most of the districts.

On the other hand, amidst the COVID-19 spike in several districts of Maharashtra, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government on Sunday, February 21, imposed a fresh night curfew in Pune. Furthermore, this comes soon after Maharashtra Minister Vijay Wadettiwar stated that the state government is thinking of imposing a night curfew in several districts. “A meeting chaired by the CM to be held soon to make a decision,” Wadettiwar informed news agencies.
