The Central Board of Secondary Education and the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination have urged the Maharashtra government to reconsider their announcement to not conduct examinations in the month of July for the pending papers.

The officials from the two board met the state education department authorities via a video call to discuss the issue at hand. The Maharashtra government had earlier asked to cancel the board examinations of class 10 and 12 students in the state as the cases of coronavirus continued to surge in the state. The meeting that was conducted between the officials of the boards and the government had the matter discussed in length in order to come to a conclusion.

The government in the past had requested the boards to postpone the exams in the state or grade the students based on their internal assessment. In response to the government, the two boards requested the government to find a way and plan as cancelling the exams for select students would not be fair or just. The boards, in turn, have shared the data of students from the state that are registered with CBSE, ICSE and ISC. As per the information available, there are about 12,000 CBSE class 12 students from the state and about 23,000 ICSE and ISC students registered.

It was earlier decided that the pending exams would be conducted between July 1 and July 15 for both the boards. The date sheets had already been released for the revised schedule. The state government would now ideally go through the data shared (number of students, location of the students) to come up with a probable plan of action for the examination. The officials have further stated that every situation would be taken into consideration keeping both the health and the future of the children in mind.
