Demonetisation hits showbiz

SHARES

Vile Parle - Demonetisation, not surprisingly, has affected Mumbai showbiz too. On the occasion of the third death anniversary of veteran actor-director Vinay Apte, a seminar was organised at the Sathaye college to discuss the impact of demonetisation on the entertainment industry and the challenges it has posed. Actor Sunil Barve, Mukta Barve, adman Bharat Dabholkar, producer Shriram Godbole participated in this discussion. Eminent economist Achyut Godbole elaborated on the effects of demonetisation on the entertainment industry. Sunil Barve agreed that demonetisation has affected Marathi theatre in a big way. Media professional Nitin Vaidya talked about the impact on advertisements in the industry, saying ads are vanishing from the TV screens. Hindustan Lever has pulled out 50 per cent of their advertisements from TV, Vaidya claimed. Most of the plays, films and serials slated for a December launch have been postponed. While no resolution can be currently offered, the participants said a 'wait and watch' policy would be the most practical approach now.
