Lata Mangeshkar turns 91: Maha govt to set up music college in her father's name

Marking the special occasion, the government has decided to start a world-class level Master Dinanath Mangeshkar music college. Minister of Higher and Technical education, Uday Samant, shared the news on social media.

 Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar turned 91 on Monday, September 28. On the occasion,  Uday Samant, Minister of Higher Education And Technical Education announced that a world-class government music college will be set up here in the name of renowned musician the late Deenanath Mangeshkar.

The college will be set up under the guidance of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and is one the initiative of Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray. It is being touted as the country's first music college of international standard. It will begin session soon and will help nurture talent and produce a new generation of singers and musicians.

Making the announcement, Samant termed it as a gift to her by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government.

Lata Mangeshkar is the eldest daughter of late Deenanath Mangeshkar. She has three more sisters. Earlier in the day, on the occasion of Lata Mangeshkar's birthday, her younger sister shared a childhood picture of all four sisters. Bhosle tweeted a black and white picture of the Mangeshkar sisters -- Lata, Usha and Meena along with her can be seen.
