West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday banned the controversial film 'The Kerala Story' in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered the chief secretary of the state to remove the film from the screens in theatres. "This step has been taken to prevent incidents of hatred and violence, to maintain peace in the state," Mamata Banerjee said while issuing the order.

'The Kerala Story' was released on May 5. Speaking about the film, Mamata Banerjee said, “Earlier they came up with Kashmir files, now it's a Kerala story and then they are planning Bengal files. Why is BJP trying to create communal tension? The film Kerala Story is an attempt to defame Kerala with false facts.”

Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee is the second non-BJP chief minister to ban the film 'The Kerala Story' in her state. Earlier, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had also issued a similar order regarding the film.
