Actress Delnaaz Irani has always been known for her absolutely incredible comedy roles that she portrays so well on screen. However, the actress says that her show Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey helped in showing a new side of her to the audience. She has also worked in several Bollywood movies.

“Actors have to evolve and I have personally found a lot of changes in me as an actor over the years. I have not cried in 30 years on screen but in KKIS I cried so much. I realized that it takes a lot to get those emotions out as I have always been doing comedy. Every day, as an actor, you learn so much on the set. When I did a show called Ek Deewana Tha, I didn’t know I could be a person who could do such a strong character. I have played a tantrik there who can see the future and guide the person. Even in comedy, I have evolved so much. My stage experience and the way I emote on TV and stage has been an incredible journey. Every day you learn something from your co-actors,” she says.

She adds, “It’s such a brilliant process to evolve as an actor and the best thing is to keep learning new things. I am very proud of the fact that I went out there and told people that I don’t want to do only comedy and that’s how KKIS happened. Learning is the biggest gift and I feel complete that I can do a variety of roles.”

Delnaaz says that it is important to understand that your character is independent of how you are as a person. “As actors, we need to be intelligent. You have to keep doing different things to nurture yourself as an actor. You need variety in every role,” she says.
The actress adds that it’s important to also appreciate the work done behind the scenes by an entire team in order to make every scene a success. “This is something that I have always realised. The crew who helps you each time. But yes, only the artist is seen on screen and gets all the love and adulation and admiration and that’s the saddest part. We should have rewards and awards for all these people as well. We need to thank the people behind the scenes much more than just saying a thank you, so that they also feel good that they made this artist,” she says.
