According to a latest report by India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai is likely to see more light rain this week. This development comes a day after the city witnessed light rains bringing some respite from the May heat. Pre-monsoon showers were seen in parts of south Mumbai such as Colaba, and Byculla, amongst others on Tuesday morning, May 24.

The rainfall in this period recorded was 3.4 mm. However, this brief span of pourings have resulted in increased humidity in the city.

On Wednesday morning, Mumbaikars, however, observed a bright sunny day with temperature maximum temperature being recorded a degree above normal at 34.5 degrees Celsius at Santacruz observatory. Meanwhile, Colaba observed a maximum temperature at 33.9 degree Celsius.  

Besides, the relative humidity this morning was at 71 per cent and according to Colaba observatory it was 80 per cent. Relative humidity is usually recorded at 90 and above during monsoon season in the city.

Whereas the minimum temperature recorded at the Colaba observatory was a degree below normal at 27.5 degrees Celsius, while according to the Santacruz observatory it was 28.9 degrees Celsius, above normal.

While light rain is forecast for the coming two days, the night and day temperature will remain above normal around 28 and 35 degrees Celsius respectively.

According to the 48 hours forecast for Mumbai, generally cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain or drizzle is likely in the city. Moreover, according to the seven-day forecast, the city is likely to record the first pre-monsoon showers of the season in the coming week. While cloudy skies are forecast for most of the week, rain and thunderstorms are likely on May 28 and 29.

In addition, the meteorological department has forecast showers and thunderstorms in some parts of Konkan, Kolhapur and Vidarbha for the next four days owing to a low pressure belt forming from the northeastern part of Rajasthan to the northeastern Arabian Sea.

Reports also mentioned that monsoon is expected to enter Mumbai as well as other parts of the west coast of Maharashtra between June 3-9.
