The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been taking strict action against major infrastructure projects for not following air pollution norms. This move comes after a clampdown on construction activities.

On December 12, officials from H/East Ward shut down the casting yard site of Metro 2B at BKC in Bandra (East). The bullet train project site at BKC was also closed but was allowed to reopen later as it followed most of the measures made for mitigation.

Stop-work orders were issued on November 4 to JKumar Infra Projects Limited for a ready-mix concrete (RMC) factory in the casting yard of Metro 2B and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure for a bullet train.

According to reports, 80 per cent of the requirements have been met at the bullet train site, and the remaining 20 per cent are being followed. The final decision will be made by senior officials.

The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) is responsible for the bullet train project. It released a statement on Tuesday, December 12. They have claimed to follow all of the BMC's guidelines provided during the visit.

Four of the eleven building sites in Andheri East that were sealed by K East Ward were later unsealed due to compliance with the rules. The stop-work orders that were given to eighteen building sites were also revoked.

On October 25, BMC had published rules for mitigating air pollution from all construction operations. Violators were warned of severe consequences. Contractors were required to manage construction and demolition debris and adhere to vehicle weight limits, according to the rules.
