Bird week is celebrated from November 5 to 12 to mark the birth anniversary of senior wildlife researcher Maruti Chitampalli and senior ornithologist Dr Salim Ali. The aim behind this is to explain the importance of every element in nature in terms of protection and conservation of biodiversity in the state, and to create public awareness.

In this background, an exhibition of Dr.Salim Ali's belongings, films made by him, and his letters has been held at Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).

Known as 'The Birdman of India', Dr. Salim Ali's work on wildlife and birds is remarkable. Cameras, telescopes, equipment used for video recording, tape recorders, binoculars used for bird watching etc. have been exhibited. Along with this, some samples of the notebooks kept with them, letters received by them are also presented in this exhibition. All these materials were available. But for the first time after 30 years it is being presented in exhibition form, said Nirmala Barure, librarian of BLHS.
