Citizens and activists recently protested against the proposed zoo that will be built at Aarey in Goregaon. The event was organised by United for Compassion International (UFCI) and Vegan India Movement (VIM) where hundreds of citizens protested against the zoo at Carter Road in Bandra.

Citizens were dressed as various animals and held placards about animal conservation. Their demands were that in 2019 Mumbai does not need to replace a natural habitat and build a zoo on it. Earlier, this month, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had proposed a zoo in Aarey Colony, Goregoan.

Nayomie Prasad Kapur from Aarey Conservation group stated that what is the point of breeding wild animals in captivity in the name of conservation? Animals like lion, deer and tiger travel up to 10m through their territory, hunting and feeding and we want to now cram these animals in an area that is less than one sq.km. depriving them of their natural life?
