On Wednesday, environmentalists from the city challenged the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) scheme to cut 66 and transplant 225 trees in Mumbai’s Bandra East and Andheri East, to pave the way for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train and Metro 7 plans, stated reports.

Therefore, on Wednesday, public hearings were conducted in regards to the felling of trees and their transplantation.

According to a report by the Indian Express, Zoru Bhathena, an environmentalist, elaborated that more than 200 trees are part of the scheme and the proposition will have to be approved by the state tree authority that hasn’t been constituted as of yet, they will thus, put up a strong resistance to the civic authority’s scheme.

Part of the Save Aarey movement, Sanjiv Walsan elucidated, based on the account that the Metro 7 project has taken over two lanes of the Western Express Highway. He believes that two lanes should have been constituted for buses in order to curtail traffic congestion. He is also of the opinion that the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will not achieve any purpose since trains through both the regions are running empty, according to him.

The report further narrated, that trees will be affected in Bandra East for the discussed project. Additionally, some will be cut and replanted to expand the Metro & corridor from Andheri east to the airport.
