Land acquirement for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project of the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has achieved impetus in the past month since 12 villages from the Palghar district that are veiled under the PESA (Panchayats – Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, approved a resolution to surrender land for the project through their respective gram sabhas, highlighted a report by the Indian Express.

According to accounts, the bullet train will pass through areas that include Mumbai suburban, Palghar and Thane districts.

Palghar district’s land acquisition officer, Sandip Pawar elaborated that based on their records, 19 villages under the PESA Act and tribal-dominated regions, had earlier provided their consent. 31 villages, now have given agreement to offer their land. Although ten are yet, against the project, the authorities are deliberating with them. With two options in front of them as of now that include either the direct purchase of land or settlement of their claims. He further elucidated that almost 85% of the land required for the project has been acquired or is in the process. They need land from 10 villages that fall under the PESA Act, stated the narrative.

Additionally, 2,000 housing projects, in Vasai that are required for the project lay across many chawls and buildings. Pawar stated that some will be razzed and its residents will be provided new homes.

Collector Rajesh Narvekar, in Thane, on the other hand, mentioned that almost 75 acres of land were to be procured in the talukas of Thane and Bhiwandi. Through the landowner’s consent, 42 acres has been received. Although for the remaining land there are family or boundary disputes, the authorities have submitted the acquisition amount in court. The remaining land will be taken over by end of September or early October, he said, stated the report.

Similarly, in Gujarat, almost 97% of the land required for the plan has been obtained.
