The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light showers for Wednesday, August 12. The IMD has downgraded the rain warning issued for Mumbai, from a yellow alert to a green alert. This means light to moderate rains are expected in the city this week.

According to IMD’s district warning, the city is expected to receive light to moderate rain on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Heavy rain is expected in one or two places in the next two days.

On Saturday, the Meteorological body had forecasted torrential rains in many places which is why a yellow alert was issued accordingly. The yellow signal for Thane, Palghar and Raigad are still there. However, a green alert has been issued for Mumbai.

K S Hosalikar, deputy director-general (western region), IMD, took to Twitter to further inform that the radar and satellite images confirm dense cloudiness over the Konkan coast. Therefore, the entire Konkan/ghat areas (Northside more) are very likely to get heavy rainfall in the next 24-48 hours.

With last week's heavy rain spell, Mumbai surpassed its annual average rainfall of 2,514 mm on Sunday. Last year, the city surpassed the annual average rainfall on August 25. In the first week of August itself, Mumbai rains have caused multiple tree falls, flooding, vehicle damages, property collapses and landslides due to the continual downpour.
