The Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the temperature will rise further for the next five days as the citizens are shocked due to the heat wave that is increasing in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Experts have warned that the temperature in many districts of Vidarbha, Marathwada is more than 40 degree Celsius and if it increases further, health complaints related to heat stroke may increase.

In many parts of the state, the intensity of heat has increased since the last few days. The maximum temperature in many parts of the state has been above 40 degrees for more than a fortnight. The weather department has predicted an increase in temperature by two to three degrees for the next five days. Although the maximum temperature is lower than Marathwada, Vidarbha, the Konkan coast is feeling hotter due to humidity.

Maximum temperature is likely to rise in Marathwada, Central Maharashtra and Vidarbha. At the same time, there is a possibility of increase in humidity along with temperature increase in the coastal areas. Fourteen districts of the state recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The highest temperature (42.4 degrees Celsius) was recorded in Amravati and Wardha.

Heatstroke patients doubled in the state

Meanwhile, this year the number of heat stroke patients has also increased more than twice as compared to last year. 1616 suspected heat stroke patients were reported in the state from March 1 to May 17. During the same period last year, 761 patients were registered. Due to heatstroke, there is a possibility of severe stroke due to continuous dehydration of the body and blood clotting in the blood vessels in the brain. This can also lead to the death of a person.

Every hospital in Mumbai has received an average of 8 to 10 patients in the past month. Therefore, expert doctors have advised that the citizens should take necessary care while leaving the house.

Danger to labourers, workers

Labourers working in the sun, workers, young people walking in the afternoon suffer from 'Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis' more or less every year in summer. But since last month, the number of people suffering from this problem has increased. At least 7 to 8 patients have come to the hospital in a month, and at least two of them need surgery, according to Dr. Pandurang Barve, Assistant Professor of Neurology at Nair Hospital in Mumbai.

What exactly happens?

Heat causes the body to expel water and salts to regulate temperature. However, if water, lemon water, and various drinks are not consumed, the person's body gets dehydrated and suffers from heat stroke. However, if the process of dehydration starts continuously or neglects to meet the body's water requirements, the blood in the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain gradually heats up and thickens. Due to this, blood clots in the blood vessels are likely to cause a person to have a severe stroke. This stroke is medically known as 'Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis'. If the attack is severe, the person may die. The number of patients suffering from this problem has been increasing in the last month. The proportion of youth in the age group of 25 to 35 is more.

Dr. Bharat Jagiasi, Director of Critical Care Department of Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital said that if you are experiencing symptoms like tingling in your hands and feet, constant headache, fatigue due to continuous work in the sun, you should immediately consult a doctor.
