As the state of Maharashtra has been lashed with heavy rainfall, distressing images of citizens taking shelter on the roofs of houses have surfaced due to the heavy floods.

Moreover, thousands have been left without power as the continual downpour knocked out electricity and mobile towers. In order to tackle the gruesome situation, seven teams of flood rescue from Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy were deployed in the areas of Ratnagiri and Raigarh. In addition, the state has been providing “ready to eat” meals to more than 200 families in the last two days.

Meanwhile, as per reports, the Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy mobilised resources to provide assistance to State and District administrations of affected areas in Karnataka and Goa as well, that are reeling under flooding of both urban and rural areas due to the incessant heavy rains.

Amidst the Maharashtra floods, 164 people have lost their lives and 100 are still missing so far, as per the Department of Relief and Rehabilitation. The Department also informed that the death toll in the 1,028 affected villages has reached 164. About 150 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been engaged in relief and rescue operations in floods and landslides affected areas all over India. Moreover, 34 teams have been deployed in Maharashtra alone.

On the other hand, in Sangli, which is one of the worst-affected areas currently due to the rainfall, efficient rescue operations have been conducted in the midst of news of rising water levels. Furthermore, earlier on Sunday, July 25, hundreds of soldiers, naval officers and emergency responders in Sangli continued to sift through ruins to save people. About 169,000 residents have been evacuated so far.
