The Maharashtra government has invited schools and colleges across the state to share ideas and concepts to combat the environmental challenges we face every day through an essay contest.

The contest has been titled “Ideas for Action” and the idea for the contest is to seek solutions for Mumbai’s air, land and water-polluting elements. Moreover, the entries can be in either English, Marathi or Hindi and have to be submitted in the form of text/essay or audio/video files.

The grand aspect of the competition happens to be the fact that the winners will get an opportunity to share their ideas with Aaditya Thackeray, the State Environment Minister, along with other experts and activists at an exclusive round table conversation. In addition, the students will also be able to participate in ‘Environment 2.0-Gen-Next: Land, Water, Air’ which happens to be an environmental goal-oriented conference scheduled for the month of February.

The contest which is open for students of higher secondary schools and junior college can share their ideas on environment@projectmumbai.org by December 2020.

In other news, Aaditya Thackeray had earlier asked the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to focus on environment-friendly development of the Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg (Samruddhi Highway) and other various highways in the state.

A meeting was held at the Ministry on Monday, November 2, 2020, to discuss the same. In the meeting, Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray, Manisha Mhaiskar, Principal Secretary, Environment Department, Radheshyam Mopalwar, Vice President and Managing Director, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, Vijay Waghmare, Joint Managing Director, Dr Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Member Secretary of Pollution Control Board Ashok Shingare among others were present.
