Scientist for the IMD in Pune, K.S. Hosalikar said that a severe weather warning has been issued in the region for the next few days. The IMD has predicted monsoons to arrive in Mumbai between June 11-14.

This comes as Mumbai received persistent spells of rain as a result of Cyclone Tauktae’s proximity to the city’s coast. Several trees were also uprooted as a result of the severe winds that followed. Data showed that around 230mm of rainfall hit the city during the cyclonic storm.

IMD data further illustrates that Mumbai has already witnessed 1,105 per cent excess pre-monsoon rain between March 1 and May 31 as a result of Tauktae. Moreover, the city recorded 304mm of rainfall as compared to the season average of 20.2mm.
