However, the citizens might receive some relief over the weekend as the weather department has predicted thundershowers on Saturday and Sunday. In the meantime, temperature is expected to continue to be around 33°C to 34°C with high humidity until next week.

On Thursday, the citizens were posed with a humid day as the maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 32.0°C while the minimum was 25.5°C. On the other hand, the maximum temperature at Santacruz was 32.4°C and the minimum was 24.5°C.

According to the IMD officials, the heat being experienced is not the 'October heat' phenomenon, which only begins by mid-October, when the weather pattern begins showing a shift after the withdrawal of southwest monsoon with the temperatures witnessing a surge along with humidity.

"As per the weather models, the extended monsoon is most likely to withdraw from northwest India by early next week and it is expected that it would withdraw from Mumbai between October 10 and 13," Rajesh Kapadia a weather enthusiast and founder of the Vagaries of Weather blog, told DNA.

Kapadia further added that several parts of the city are likely to face thundershowers over the weekend by late afternoon or evening, which might bring some relief from the heat. However, after Sunday, temperatures for the next few days are expected to remain around 34°C.
