Mumbai: More than 219 bird species found in Sanjay Gandhi National Park

The Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) is conducting a bird count every month from February 2021 in collaboration with Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary. More than 50 BNHS members and volunteers participate in it. It is held at 12 important places in both parks and sanctuaries.


The Assistant Director Dr. Raju Kasambe and Program Officer Asif Khan do. This time the bird count was organised on 29 October. More than 50 scholars and volunteers and forest department officials participated in it. 101 bird species were recorded in this census. Three new species were included in it. It included the Indian Nilpankh, Chandol and Peregrine falcon. So from 2021 till now 219 species have been recorded. The organisation of such enumeration makes a valuable contribution to the research and development of the parties.

This enumeration is conducted every month and the information regarding the same is made available on the website of BNHS from time to time. The BNHS has appealed to more ornithologists to participate in this initiative.
