According to reports, a portion of the Trimurti chawl in the Vakola area of Santacruz-east has collapsed on Tuesday morning, August 4, due to the torrential rains in Mumbai.

The Mumbai fire brigade team along with two fire engines and an ambulance reached the site to find the entire roof of the room collapsed within the chawl premises, which was attached to the drain. Moreover, as per reports, four people fell into it.

So far, one girl has been rescued by the police and has been transferred to the VN Desai hospital while the other three are still missing. The National Disaster Response Force has been called on to search the site in order to provide aid in operations.

Due to the continual rainfall, the drains of the slum clusters have flooded. In another unfortunate incident, an unidentified person has died after being hit by an electric pole on Thane's Ghodbunder Road. The incident took place near Ovala Hanuman Temple on Ghodbunder Road, when there was a sudden power outage in the electricity pole on the road.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a red alert with the forecast of “extremely heavy” rainfall in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts in Maharashtra for the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, areas such as Goregaon, King Circle, Hindmata, Dadar, Shivaji Chowk, Shell Colony, Kurla ST Depot, Bandra Talkies, Sion Road are reported to all have been waterlogged as a result of the downpour.
