Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar are expected to receive significant rainfall this week, specifically between July 13-14. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for the three regions.

The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated locations on July 15. However, experts have clarified that these may only remain small bursts of rain and probably won’t be continuous or extremely heavy.

Mumbai has observed small bursts of rain over the weekend, though there was no continuous outpour of rain. Data from IMD’s Santa Cruz and Colaba observatories showed a rainfall of 0.2mm and 4.9 mm over the 12-hour period on July 11.

However, over the previous weekend, Mumbai noticed heavy rains across several parts, leading to the flooding of some low-lying areas of the city. At around the same time, the IMD had issued a yellow alert for the region predicting up to 15-feet of high-tides to hit the coastlines of Maharashtra including Mumbai, Raigad, and Thane on July 5.

In the meantime, there’s some good news emerging amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in Mumbai with the city reporting a 70% recovery rate among the population as of the most recent figures.

The statewide lockdown announced earlier this month will be in effect until July 31 as an attempt to reduce the number of infections while also ramping up testing.
