The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in the state for today, June 27 and tomorrow, June 28.

Mumbai, Thane and Palghar districts are most likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days.

This development came after Mumbai, on Monday, June 26, got an additional 47mm of rain with its maximum temperature at 30.8 degrees Celsius. The Colaba observatory recorded 63 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours. On the other hand, the minimum temperature dropped to 24 and 25 degree Celsius bringing a huge relief to Mumbaikars from the scorching heat.

Owing to this, Mumbai and its suburbs are seeing severe water-logging at various places that is impacting traffic movement. 

Additionally, the weather department have cautioned citizens about the possibility of heavy rainfall exceeding 115.5mm across the city.

Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued yellow alert indicating possibility of heavy rainfall in several parts of central Maharashtra, including Nashik, Pune and Aurangabad. 

The department has issued alerts for Konkan, Vidharbha and Madhya Maharashtra regions too, adding that the Monsoon may stretch over the Konkan region.

Besides, warning has also been issued to Satara, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Nandurbar, Chandrapur and Gondia districts. Apart from this, the districts of North Maharashtra, Marathwada may receive rain at isolated places.

According to KS Hosalikar, a senior scientist with the IMD in Pune, there is a likelihood of the monsoon intensifying over the Konkan region, including Mumbai and satellite cities, as it moves northward. As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, leading to the issuance of warnings for Konkan, Vidarbha, and Madhya Maharashtra as well.
