Mumbai: Temperature drops by 3.2 degrees

On Sunday, the Santacruz observatory recorded the maximum temperatures of 35 degrees, a drop from Saturday’s temperature of 38.2 degrees.

On Sunday, March 14, a drop of 3.2 degrees was recorded in the maximum temperature of Mumbai bringing about relief for the people across the city.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the Santacruz observatory recorded the maximum temperatures of 35 degrees, a drop from Saturday’s temperature of 38.2 degrees.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperatures of 35 degrees recorded by the IMD Santacruz observatory were 2.1 degrees above normal while the IMD Colaba observatory had recorded maximum temperatures of 32. 6 degrees which were 1.1 degrees above normal. On Saturday, Mumbai experienced the highest maximum temperature of the season at 38.2 degree Celsius.

On the other hand, with regards to pollution, under the National Clean Air Action Plan (NCAP), Maharashtra has the highest cities in India- a total of 19 cities identified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to reduce Air Pollution by 20-30 per cent.

Moreover, some of the cities like Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, Pune, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Aurangabad are listed as non-attainment cities. The latest to be added is Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation.  In addition, the major contributors to air pollution in Maharashtra are vehicular and industrial emission (including thermal power plants), construction dust and solid fuel emissions.

In order to address the growing problem of air pollution in Maharashtra, experts, civil society and officials from the environment department came together earlier to develop detailed recommendations to improve air quality across the state.
