Despite rain warnings in Mumbai, the city saw a further spike in the daytime temperature for the third consecutive day.

On Monday, March 6, India Meteorological Department (IMD)'s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature 39.3 degree Celsius and Colaba observatory saw 37 degree Celsius. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature recorded at both the observatory were 25.4 and 24.7 respectively.

This rise in the temperature is attributed to the light showers and thunderstorms in parts of Mumbai and its suburbs on Sunday night, March 5.

However, it is pertinent to note that the IMD has warned of cloudy weather for the next few days with a light drizzle and thunderstorm across the city. In addition, experts have predicted some improvement in the air quality. With this, Mumbaikars can breathe a sigh of relief.

Besides, some districts in the state received light rains and thunderstorms.

IMD has also forecast light/moderate thunderstorms with lightning, rains and gusty winds with varied intensity in Maharashtra for the next two days.

According to the IMD Pune head, K S Hosalikar's tweet, thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30-40 kmph were very likely to occur at isolated places in districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad.

On March 5, IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degrees Celsius, marking the second hottest day so far this season.
