Mumbaikars are feeling the chill after a week-long heat. On Monday morning, December 9, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)'s Santacruz observatory witnessed a minimum temperature of as low as 13.7 degrees Celsius. This marks coldest December day in nearly a decade.

With the temperature dropping by 11 degrees in just three days, it is 5.6 degrees below normal. On the other hand, the Colaba Observatory recorded a temperature of 19.2 degrees Celsius.

The weather department attributed the sudden drop to prevailing weather patterns and forecasted clear skies throughout the week.

The temperature in Mumbai has been decreasing since Sunday, December 8 where the minimum temperature was recorded at 17 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature is likely to remain below 20 degrees Celsius by Friday, December 13, and the cold snap is expected to continue. However, according to the IMD forecast, the minimum temperature will remain below 17 degrees Celsius by Wednesday, December 11. It will gradually increase to 19-21 degrees Celsius by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, the air quality in Mumbai was recorded as ‘moderate’, as the city saw a thin layer of smog. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the city recorded an AQI of 112, as of 9 am this morning.
