The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a pretty hot day for Mumbai overall. As per data published by the IMD, maximum temperatures in Mumbai could touch 34°C while minimum temperatures can go down to 26°C. Additionally, the PM2.5 concentration in Mumbai’s air was rated at 30, which is categorized under “good”.

The data also mentioned that Mumbai’s skies are expected to be relatively clear today with humidity of around 82 per cent expected in Colaba and 71% in Santacruz. The maximum/minimum temperatures in areas like Santacruz will be 34.4°C/25.7°C while Colaba has recorded 34.8°C/26.4°C on Friday.

Last month, the IMD predicted that monsoons in Mumbai could be delayed by a day. Subsequently, the IMD has maintained that the country will receive regular monsoons, particularly in its forecast for the south-west monsoons which is expected to hit Maharashtra over the next few weeks.

The arrival of monsoons is expected to provide some relief to farmers across Maharashtra who have suffered from drought and loss of crops last year. A report from April suggested that the water stock in Maharashtra’s dams are up two-fold since 2019, which is certainly good news for the agricultural sector in the state.

The country’s economy is currently taking a big hit as the coronavirus lockdown continues until mid-May in several regions of the country. The authorities have color-coded areas under red, orange, and green zones to measure the spread of the virus in a particular area. Mumbai’s figures are still rising with a total of 11,394 cases in the district. Maharashtra’s total tally of active cases stands at 17,973 as of Friday.
