A total of 76 people have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents in Maharashtra since June 1 and of them, nine died in the last 24 hours, said the State Disaster Management Department on Sunday, July 10.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for Vidarbha region of Maharashtra from July 11-13. The weather department also forecast that the region will receive over 100-200 mm of rains and cautioned alert.

Moreover, last 48 hours ghats and catchment areas got heavier rains than Mumbai city. These areas will continue to get very heavy rains next four days. 

IMD's head scientist Pune KS Hosalikar took to Twitter and shared: "Last few days Mumbai rains were disappointing to Mumbaikars and MET Dept. With all fav weather conditions around, it still failed."

In addition, a fresh intense wet spell is likely to occur over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa from 12 July.

In an official statement released by the department mentioned: "Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall & thunderstorm/lightning with isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Vidarbha during next 4-5 days."

The statement further added that isolated very heavy rainfall likely over Vidarbha on July 13, while scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy rainfall also likely over Vidarbha for today and tomorrow.

Meanwhile, as several parts of Maharashtra have been witnessing heavy rainfall over the past few days in July, a total of 76 people have lost their lives due to rain-related incidents in Maharashtra since June 1 and of them, nine died in the last 24 hours, said the State Disaster Management Department on Sunday, July 10.

The department said 838 houses have been damaged and 4,916 people have been shifted to safer locations, while 35 relief camps have been set up by it and the rehabilitation department in the state.

Moreover, 125 animals have also lost their lives in the rain/flood-related incidents in Maharashtra since June 1.
